TOS - "Space Seed"

This episode has been retroactively called "the episode with Khan." It serves as the genesis for what many consider to be the best of the original Star Trek films, The Wrath of Khan. Indeed, Khan himself is perhaps one of the most well-known villains in film history.

"Space Seed" does a great job of establishing who Khan is and why he is so dangerous. While perhaps not a genius, he is mentally super-capable, able to learn the technical workings of the Enterprise in mere hours. Physically superior, he is only able to be beaten by Kirk's own brand of Iowa bar-fighting fist-justice. However, that ending fight scene is perhaps the episode's weakest, as it is very obviously fake.

While this would have been a "good" episode of Star Trek without the existence of Khan's later film appearance, this story is made far more interesting in light of the events of said film. Whereas before the story's interest was held mostly in the mystery of Khan's identity, "Space Seed" has now become a more suspenseful tale since the viewer now knows of the impending wrath of Khan.
